‘THE GOLDEN GODDESS’

Turmeric, sometimes known as the "The Golden Goddess", possesses so many medicinal and practical uses.

From its pharmaceutically-comparable anti-inflammatory properties, to giving curries their distinctive taste, to its use as a natural dye and food preservation, it can be compared to no other.

Also, just like all herbs, there are many different species of Turmeric. The most potent species for health is Curcuma Longa

From this species an extract called BCM-95™ has been formulated.

BCM-95™ is an enhanced absorption turmeric extract providing volatile oils and the full spectrum of curcuminoids.

Up to 95% of BCM-95™ is able to be absorbed by the body and is therefore able to be easily digested.

"Curcuminoid compounds typically have poor solubility in most body fluids, limiting their bioavailability. However, free curcumin levels achieved with the bioavailable formulation of curcuminoids and essential oil of turmeric (BCM-95® ) proved to be about 200 to 300 times more prevalent in the blood, brain, liver and kidney than levels reported for natural curcumin in other studies, demonstrating unprecedented bioavailability." [1]

Turmeric is available in many different forms; these include:
  • Raw
  • Powder
  • Paste
  • Essential Oil
  • Via Supplement - Capsule or tablet

Turmeric truly is a wonderful, versatile herb.

Turmeric comes from the same family as ginger (Zingiberaceae). in Sanskrit it’s name is “Haridra” (“The Yellow One”), “Gauri” ("The One Whose Face is Light and Shining”) or “Kanchai” (“The Golden Goddess”).

It is a tropical plant, that is harvested in the winter time.

The golden, finger-like rhizome, or the stem that grows underground, is the part that is harvested, much like ginger and this is where its medicinal properties lay.

Turmeric has hundreds of molecular constituents, each with a variety of biological activities.

There are at least 20 molecules that are antibiotic, 14 that are known cancer preventatives, 12 that are anti-tumour, 12 are anti-inflammatory and there are at least 10 different antioxidants. [2]

The active ingredient in Turmeric is called Curcumin.

Combined with black pepper, Curcumin becomes 2000 times more potent.

Curcumin is now the basis of scientific research and is extracted from turmeric and sold as supplements.

Turmeric has been used to treat many serious diseases such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Cancer

  • Bronchitis
  • Common Cold

  • Fever
  • Parasites
  • . . . and the list goes on!

Some of its medicinal properties include its ability to act as an:

  • Analgesic
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-tumour
  • Anti-allergen
  • Antioxidant
  • Antiseptic
  • Antispasmodic
  • Astringent
  • Carminative
  • Digestive
  • Diuretic
  • Stimulant
  •  . . . and more.

When turmeric is powdered it is an excellent preservative, preserving the freshness and nutritive value of food. It played a vital role in the survival and sustainability of South Asia and was valued more than gold and precious stones. [3]

Turmeric also has spiritual connotations attached to it.

It has been worshipped for its sun-like properties by the Arya culture, who also believed it has special protective properties.

In South India people wear a round bead made from a dried piece of the rhizome to protect them from evil and to grant the wearer healing and protection.

In Ancient India, Turmeric is believed to hold the energy of the Divine Mother, granting prosperity, cleansing the chakras and purifying the energy channels of the body.

It is used in many Hindu ceremonies including Pujas and weddings.

It’s easy to add turmeric to your diet.

You can add it to your eggs, smoothies, rice, roast vegetables, soups, fish, bone broth or you can make a turmeric tea or milk by adding 1 tsp of turmeric to 1 cup of boiling water or warm milk, then to add to its potency, take it off the heat and stir though 1/4 tsp of ground pepper and ginger.
